Choosing kitchen and laundry splashback tiles

A splashback takes the splashes, steam and grease behind a sink, cooktop or laundry tub, so choose a glazed or sealed tile that wipes clean. These are the main groups in our splashback tiles range: 84 subway tiles, 68 porcelain mosaics, 63 marble mosaics, 28 glass mosaics and 21 patterned tiles, plus larger formats (31 products have a side of 600 mm or more). Tiles do not show fingerprints the way a glass panel does, and you choose the size, colour and grout.

Subway tiles are the usual splashback choice and the largest group here. Most are 60 x 240 mm (20 products), 75 x 300 mm (13) or 60 x 250 mm (8), in gloss (47) or matt (32), and white is the most common colour, with green, blue and grey options. Laid in a brick bond a subway splashback looks classic, stacked in a straight grid it looks modern, and herringbone (22 products in this range) adds movement. Our guide to subway tiles covers layouts and cutting.

White (88 products) and grey (55) are the most common colours, followed by blue (24), black (15) and green (15); browse white or grey to compare shades. Gloss (115 products) reflects light and wipes down fastest, and matt (89) hides marks. Honed (58) and tumbled (11) tiles are mostly marble mosaics, which are natural stone and need sealing before grouting, while the 28 glass mosaics (25 x 25 mm) add colour behind a cooktop or sink.

Laundry splashback tiles

The same tiles work behind a laundry tub and above the bench. A laundry splashback mostly meets water, detergent and damp, so a glazed gloss or matt tile that wipes clean is enough, and small subway tiles or mosaics fit neatly around taps, power points and the tub edge. Tile up to the underside of a wall cabinet or to the window sill so the wall behind the taps is covered, and ask your tiler about waterproofing behind the tub. Our kitchen and laundry tiles cover the laundry floor and walls.

Using the same tile in the kitchen and the laundry makes a connected space feel like one room, and a grout that matches the tile keeps the joints quiet. For the rest of the kitchen browse kitchen tiles, and read our splashback tiling guide before you order.
