How to choose pool tiles

What tiles can be used in a pool?

Pool interiors are usually finished in mosaics made for pools, because the small pieces follow curves and steps and stay smooth under water. Every tile in this range is a gloss glass mosaic (93 products) from Vidrepur, Ezarri (made in Spain) and Leyla (made in Turkey); see Vidrepur pool mosaics for that maker's range on its own. Check that the product page lists the zone you plan to tile.

What size pool mosaic should I choose?

Most chips here are 25 x 25 mm (89 products), with a few at 36 x 36 or 38 x 38 mm. Small chips bend around curves, steps and benches without cutting, which is why they are the usual choice inside a pool. Each maker uses its own sheet backing, for example the JointPoint system on Ezarri sheets, so check the sheet size and laying instructions on each product page.

Which colour pool tiles should I choose?

Tile colour changes how the water looks. White and light blue tiles give clear, bright water; mid and dark blues give the classic deep-blue pool; grey, green and black tiles make the water look darker and more natural. Glass looks different wet and in full sun, so compare colours outdoors in daylight before deciding.

What goes on the waterline?

The waterline band is the strip at water level where marks from sunscreen, oils and evaporating water show first. A darker or mid-tone mosaic there hides marks better than white. The interior, the waterline and the paving around the pool each have a different job, so confirm that the tile you choose is specified for its zone, including permanent immersion where it applies.

Pool tile FAQs

How much do pool tiles cost?

It depends on the maker, the colour and the size of your pool. Work out the area of the interior in square metres, add a margin for cuts, and check how each product is sold; several of these mosaics come by the box, with the area per box on the product page. Tiling a pool is specialist work, so ask your pool builder for a quote that includes adhesive, grout and labour.

What are pool tiles made of?

Pool tiles are mostly glass mosaic, porcelain mosaic or larger porcelain tiles, with natural stone often used for coping and paving. This collection is all glass mosaic: glass does not absorb water and its colour is part of the glass itself, which is why it is a common choice for pool interiors.

What are the best tiles for around a pool?

Around the pool you need a walking surface rather than a mosaic. Choose an outdoor floor tile with a P5 slip rating where people walk barefoot on wet tiles, and keep the surface free-draining. Browse outdoor floor tiles or the wider outdoor tiles range for pool paving.

Where can I buy pool tiles?

You can order pool mosaics online from this page. To see tiles in person, visit our showroom at 4-10 Fisher St, Silverwater NSW 2128; check Contact Us for current opening hours, and ask whether the colours you want are on display before you travel.
