Planning the geometry of a chevron floor

The current chevron collection is made up of engineered timber pieces with angled ends, designed to meet in continuous V-shaped points. This distinguishes chevron from herringbone, where rectangular pieces overlap in a broken zigzag. The angle and board proportions determine the scale of the pattern, so confirm the exact format before planning the room.

A strong centre line is essential. Decide how the points should align with the main sight line, doorway or island, then work outward to understand cuts at the perimeter. Borders and transitions should be resolved at the same time; leaving them until installation can unbalance the repeat.

Natural timber colour and grain vary between pieces and become more noticeable across a directional pattern. Review more than one sample and consider how light changes across the room. For a less aligned pattern using rectangular pieces, compare the current herringbone flooring range.

Chevron typically requires detailed setting out and a project-specific cutting allowance. Confirm supplied left and right pieces where applicable, substrate preparation, adhesive, expansion and finishing instructions with the installer and the selected product documentation.
