Choose a bath around the room, plumbing and daily use

The first decision is usually the installation style. A freestanding bath needs space around its visible sides, a back-to-wall bath can simplify the rear junction, and a corner bath uses two adjoining walls. Compare those layouts against cleaning access, tapware position and the circulation space the room needs.

Measure more than the nominal length. Width, rim height, internal bathing space, capacity, waste position and installation clearances all affect whether a bath works for the household and the room. Check the complete access path as well, including doors, halls, stairs and turns between delivery and the bathroom.

Before ordering, have the builder and plumber review floor support, service access, waste connection, tap reach and waterproofing interfaces. Freestanding floor-mounted tapware, wall outlets and deck-mounted fittings each change the rough-in and the space needed around the bath. The selected product drawing should guide this work.
